Krystina Prassos

Born and raised in New York. Photography began for me when I inherited my aunt’s Nikon D70s 18 years ago and I haven’t looked back. Eventually I moved up to a Nikon D300, followed by the D750, and have now made the switch to mirrorless with a Z 7II.

For a long time I was into the HDR craze. Bold colors, surreal scenery, raised shadows, etc. One day I looked at my work and thought, “I hate all of it.” Unfortunately, I have lost the RAW versions of a lot of these photographs, so I tried to re-edit them (tone them down) from their HDR versions. A lot of them are still on this site because it’s nice to see the growth we go through as creatives.

Right now I’m thoroughly enjoying three types of photography: macro, wildlife, and street.

It is an absolute blast getting to interact with people. They are incredibly interesting and are generally receptive to having their photo taken. I’ve always been the kind of person who seeks discomfort and there is nothing more uncomfortable than asking a stranger to take their photograph. But something beautiful happens when you do: their defenses come down and so do yours.

Taking someone’s photograph means connection, and that is what photography has always meant for me. Whether I’m connecting to another person or with nature, the underlying thread remains the same: we are all here, right now, together.

A bit about me personally: I’m married to my best friend, have three kitties, and work in private aviation (because planes are just like cameras, right?). Things I love: chess, sudoku, reading, traveling, running, hiking, learning.

Thanks for stopping by to read my bio, Mom.
